Overlay Technique

Before
After

In my photo, I started off  by cropping it, I no longer wanted a rule of thirds type of photo. I wanted my focus to be the tiger I put over my face, and the bright blue eye's. In the original photo I have white stripes on my shirt that were really taking away the focus of my photo, so I coloured it over with black. I also changed my photo to black and white so the tiger face could blend with the rest of my skin tone and look more natural. What I really wanted to accomplish is my eyes standing out, so I kept them as the original colour and turned everything else into black and white. I also played around with the tiger face so it would fit my face naturally and I also erased near my eyes. A problem I had while editing this photo was figuring out how to keep my eyes from turning in to black and white along with the rest of me. I ended up using the lasso tool to make a new layer for each eye and I was able to accomplish only my eyes not in black and white.

Before

After

In this photo, I cropped so it was closer to my face, it didn't seem nessecasry to stay farther away from my face. I wanted to use pink and blue for my gradient tool because the photo that was overlaying my face was pink and blue and I thought it looked neat. For my overlay, I used a flower texture I thought was pretty. I erased the overlay from everywhere but my skin, I made sure it wasn't on my teeth or lips and my eyes as well. A problem I had while playing with this photo is using the gradient tool around my hair, my hair is curled in this photo so I had to get around my curls neatly,it took some time.

I think my final product is succesful. I feel a lot more knowledged after this assignment, I learned a lot and I feel more confident editing photos on Adobe Photoshop. Overlaying photo's is a cool technique to play around with it. I think my first photo is very succesful, it's exactly what I imagined when I thought about what I wanted to do for this assingment. My first photo is defiantly my favourite, I spent a lot more time on it and I like the idea better, but I do like the second one it's happy and fun, the colours are very cheerful.

Andy Warhol

For this photo, I used light blue and orange because they are complementry colours. The shades look really well together I thought. Although, I should've used another shade of blue or orange on my hair or face. I think my face and hair stand out more in this photo.
For this photo, I used different purple analogous colours. I really like these colours together, this photo is really appealing to me.
For this photo, I used different green analogous colours. I had to use the darkest colour on my face and lightest colour in my hair so it would stand out more. I tried using the darker colour on my hair and it wasn't very attractive looking.

National Flag Day

This is a photo of two hands with a maple leaf painted on them. I took this photo because I thought it really showed our school spirit, tons of students got maple leafs painted on their hands, the painters did a excellent job. When I PhotoShopped this photo I put on the black and white effect but faded it everywhere except for the bright red maple leaf, I wanted the maple leaves to stand out.

I took this photo when all of our guests who represented our National Flag Day were entering the gym. We were honoured to have all of our guests join us on that day, I think it's very important to have a photo of them. When I PhotoShopped it I put on the black and white effect, the orignal photo had a lot of different colors so I decided to make it black and white so whoever looking at this photo can really take in the different people walking in the gym.

This is a photo of a Lourdes student who is really showing school spirit. The main focus is his proud facial expression, but I also positioned him so I could capture the Canadian flag in the back of the photo, I faded everything except for the student because I wanted him as the main focus, but I also wanted a visible Canadian flag in the background.

Photojournalism Ethics

I believe that it is okay to move an object to get a better view on the scene you want to capture, but I do not agree with moving an object that you want to be a main focus of the picture. I do not agree with setting up a photo. Altering a scene becomes unacceptable when you set up the objects you want to capture,  it is not okay to stage a photograph. For example the photograph " It All Began With A Mouse"  is a situation where a photographer took a photo of  a mickey mouse toy on the ground in a war torn country, the photo can give you a lot of different thoughts and opinions,  it is a very sad photo. The problem was after the photo was seen a bunch of photographers set up toys in damaged areas and took similar photos, it was staged and the photo doesn't tell a story.

I think using software's such as Adobe Photoshop is very useful and it can be a really positive if you use it for the right reasons. When you use Photoshop to edit the color effect I do not believe it is doing any harm, as well as cleaning up photos. Although, if you're removing a main focus to the picture or inserting something else into the photo it is a problem. An example of that is "Sharks invade New Jersey" a numerous amount of people took photos of the storm in New Jersey and inserted sharks into the pictures to make it look like sharks were swimming down the streets of new Jersey, also someone else inserted two sharks into a mall and it created scandal. That is manipulation of Digital Images.

Although Intrusion into privacy does create some rather entertaining headlines, and broadcasts some sad situations, I think there is a limit to how much you can intrude on someone's private life. I do not think you should be able to take photos of people during one of their private moments without their permission. I think photojournalism's should be able to take pictures of celebrities during big events, but I do not think it is okay for photojournalists to become obsessed with taking photos of celebrities and such during a casual or private time for them. When photojournalists capture families in grief it is very sad and emotional and I'm sure a lot of people can relate to it, but it is very personal to the family and I think the family should give permission before it's posted.

New Kid

The indivduals I chose to make my new kid is Kara who is the base, Caz's mouth and my eyes. I added our features together to make a new kid because I looked at our skin tones and they seemed like they could blend well. I also looked at Kara's original smile and noticed how Caz's smile was smililar and it looked like Caz's smile would look good on Kara's face. I also made sure Kara and I's eyes were about the same size. I also changed Kara's blonde hair to a dark brown.
I think I did a good job with working on Kara's blonde hair to a dark brown color, I cleaned up her hair from around her face as well and I think I did a good job doing so. The next time I edit someone's face I will work on blending her skin tone better when I clone it.

First Post

I'm excited about this course, I enjoy taking and looking at photos, also playing with the effects and editing photos is something I enjoy doing on my freetime every once in a while.
I do agree with the studio rules, they are very important rules to follow by and I will uphold them.
